Giorgio Vasari once stated, “Inspiration demands the active cooperation of the intelligent joined with enthusiasms, and it is under such conditions that marvelous conceptions, with all that is excellent and divine, come into being.” Jan’s’ energetic persona shines through her vivacious pieces of art. Describing her talent as “A Gift from God”, Jan’s forte is painting animals and she often places them in beautiful land and seascapes. By creating these atmospheric backgrounds through the use of a variety of colors reminiscent of the Wild, the figures within her paintings pop and automatically enrapture the viewer. Jan’s museum quality oil on canvas paintings are unrivaled in their realistic displays of lions, tigers, chimps, and bears as well as sea life such as this “Irresistible” Sea Otter basking in the sun at Moss Landing off the Pacific Coast in California. Jan’s captivation with the unbridled life force vibrates throughout her paintings as it is transferred to the perceptions of the viewer upon interaction with her canvases.
Dealing particularly with animals and sea life as her main source of inspiration, Jan seeks to create her works of art in a way which allows them to provide tangible evidence for their ability to display motion. Her paintings look as if they could spring to life at any moment and leap exultantly to our domain.
Jan’s art is in collections across the country. Her work has shown at Sandy by the Sea in Carmel, CA. Her art has also been on display at the Gallery of Green Resort in St. George, Utah and in the prestigious Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Jan has been honored to be juried into the Oil Painters of America and featured in two separate editions of Southwest Art Magazine.
Jan is currently an active member with Mountain Artist Guild, Southwest Artist Guild and Arizona Art Alliance. Her work is currently on display in Prescott, Arizona at Mountain Artist Gallery, Art Mart and Prescott Village. You can also see it So-Ho Gallery and Second Story Gallery.
